Finding Calm
Anne Wyatt of Bon Accord Hypnotherapy
shares how she helps clients take back control
with Solution Focused Hypnotherapy.
What made you start this work, and what
keeps you passionate about it?
I have always wanted to help people through
challenges. From my teens to mid 30s I lived
with depression and anxiety, often unable
to function. Finding a Solution Focused
Hypnotherapist changed everything, and
training in the approach was a natural step.
My job now is to help
people take back control
- how could you not be
passionate about that!
It’s a three-pronged approach. Clients learn
how the brain works, which often gives hope
from the first consultation. Understanding how
to retrain the mind is empowering, and with
solution-focused discussion and hypnosis,
clients take positive steps forward in a way
many therapies haven’t offered before.
What do your clients say after working with
you?
Most describe a new lease of life - clarity,
resilience, confidence and focus. Many say the
experience has been life-changing, which is a
privilege to witness.
Many people have misconceptions about
hypnotherapy. What is it really like?
For someone feeling stuck or anxious, what is
one small step they could take today?
No clucking like a chicken, no mind control!
Sessions are positive and often good fun.
Hypnosis is a deeply relaxed, focused state,
like daydreaming - we stay in control, but the
mind can problem-solve more easily. It helps
move away from unhelpful patterns and build
confidence, self-esteem and contentment,
focusing on purpose and enjoyment now
rather than the past.
Reach out for help, whether that’s a
professional, friend or family member. Taking
that first step can feel daunting but is hugely
powerful.
What are the most common struggles people
come to you with?
Anxiety and low mood are the main reasons
people seek help, but no two clients are the
same. Symptoms include excessive worry,
negative rumination, overwhelmed, panic,
grief, sleep issues and struggling to enjoy life.
How do you bring therapy, hypnotherapy and
neuroscience together?

About me: I grew up in the Black Isle and,
after time in Glasgow and Plymouth, moved
to Aberdeenshire in 2014 with my husband.
Our rescue cats, Skye and Mossie, keep us
entertained. I play flute and piccolo with local
orchestras, dabble in
fused glass, and enjoy
crafts. In true Solution
Focused style, I even
pre-planned a fun
midlife crisis - riding
my Yamaha Virago
Trike on country roads.
Give me a wave if you
see me!
