Save Kerloch
Stop 220m Wind Turbines on Kerloch
Protect Banchory’s Views, Wildlife and Community
By Imogen Davidson
Galileo Empower has proposed building the “Glenskinnan Renewable Energy Park” on Kerloch,
with 14 wind turbines (220m high), solar panels, and a battery storage system. The site lies
just a few kilometres south of Banchory and Strachan, similar in size to the Hill of Fare
development. It is still unclear how the power will be connected, raising the real possibility of
electricity pylons being added to the plan.
How Kerloch could look preliminary layout
Taller than Scottish landmarks 220m turbines
• Not appropriate – Too intrusive and too close to conservation areas including the River
Dee, River Feugh, and Dee Valley, and highly disruptive to community infrastructure.
• Not necessary – Scotland’s grid is already green, with windpower exceeding demand and
export capacity. Rapid growth is driving up constraint payments and electricity bills.
• Construction jobs will be short-term, and operational roles are unlikely to be local.
Galileo’s community fund offer matches the minimum £5000 per MW set by the
Scottish Government.
Galileo held consultations in March at Auchenblae and Strachan, where an exit poll revealed
people would overwhelmingly prefer to preserve the environment. Banchory community has
yet to be consulted.
