Celebrating Kindness
in Banchory
How often do we hear the phrase, “the world
has gone mad?” With the constant emphasis
on bad news and negativity, many people feel
powerless as a result. In Banchory, we are
fortunate to live in a beautiful green space,
yet frustrations persist. So, how can we take
responsibility for our own happiness? Here
are some tips:
• Avoid starting your day with negative news.
Instead, choose something positive to set the
tone.
• Speak kindly about others; if you can’t,
choose silence. Use language you would
appreciate receiving.
• Embrace the altruistic act of giving without
expecting anything in return.
Recently, a heartfelt “Pay It Forward”
fundraising event was organised by Banchory
residents who have benefited from the
compassion of a selfless individual, who
wishes to remain anonymous. The event
aimed to honour this extraordinary individual
who has quietly transformed lives in Banchory
for decades.
“This event was about showing gratitude the
way they would want - by helping others,”
said one organiser. “They have never sought
recognition or accepted rewards, instead
inspiring generations through kindness and
community spirit.” As this individual often
says, “Many like me don’t want rewards, but
an occasional ‘Thank You’ helps. I volunteer
simply because Community Matters.”
Chairman of the Banchory Community Trust
said: “This person has been a relentless
advocate for the community and making sure
people have a say
in what happens to
their lives. She has
helped so many people
through tough times
and given hope to
those who at times
have felt there was no
one listening.”
The event also aimed to support Breast
Cancer Now, which strives to ensure that
everyone diagnosed with breast cancer
lives well through research, support,
and campaigning. The £1,200 raised will
contribute to vital services, helplines, and
peer support.
Participants in the event shared that
volunteering brought them joy and a sense
of purpose. “We made a great team and felt
closer as a result,” one member noted. “Our
outlook on life has improved, and we hope
others will be inspired to volunteer in the
community. Even small acts of kindness, like
taking out a neighbour’s bin, can make a
difference.”
Another participant expressed gratitude,
stating, “We just wanted to have a hero
recognised , whose love for this town can
never be repaid - but will be thanked, one kind
act at a time.”
In a world often filled with negativity, let’s
remember that community matters, and each
act of kindness contributes to a brighter
future.
