Official Tartan
for Banchory
Launched
The community in Banchory is celebrating
the launch of their official town tartan.
Banchory Community Trust has lodged the
design for Banchory Tartan in the Scottish
Register of Tartans and hopes the new
pattern will become a tool to promote the
town and support its charitable work.
The colours have been chosen to reflect
the natural surroundings and rich heritage
of the Deeside town with backers hoping it
will become a firm favourite with locals and
visitors alike.
Green has been chosen to illustrate the
abundance of forestry and the mighty Scots
Pine, pale blue signifies the River Dee which
runs the length of the town, dusky pink is
a nod to Hill of Fare granite which features
prominently in local architecture, and purple
represents Banchory’s historic lavender
industry, heather and royalty.
The design, produced in conjunction with
specialists at Lochcarron of Scotland, has
been woven into scarves which are sold
through the Trust’s social enterprise shop
Studio 1 which is home to over 40 local
artists and crafters. Tartan blankets will
arrive in time for winter and it is hoped
other promotional items will follow.
Alasdair Ross, Chairman of Banchory
Community Trust said:
“We hope this new tartan will
contribute to Banchory’s sense
of place as well as reflecting our
town’s heritage. This is about
having something recognisably
‘Banchory’ which we can use to
highlight all the things around us
that make this a brilliant place
to live and visit. As well as that,
its something that we hope will
be around for generations as a
source of civic pride.”
The 100% lambswool scarves are already
proving popular with locals and visitors, and
are available only at Studio 1 in Scott Skinner
Square, Banchory priced at £30 with all
proceeds going to the Trust.
